Geoffrey Smith is a Professional Accountant (SA), Professional Tax Practitioner (SA) and a member of The South African Institute of Professional Accountants since 1992.
Geoffrey established his Virtual Financial Manager practice Geoff Smith in East London in 1991.
For a total of twelve years prior to that (seven in South Africa and five in Ireland) he was (sequentially) employed by the international accountancy firms Deloitte, KMG, Ernst & Whinney and Ernst & Young.
He started his accountancy career with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in East London in 1979 where he completed five years articles of clerkship.
In 1984 he joined KMG (Aiken & Carter) in East London before transferring to KMG (Reynolds McCarron) in Dublin, Ireland in 1986.
During his five year contract in Dublin, KMG Ireland merged with Ernst & Whinney in 1987 and in 1989 Ernst & Whinney amalgamated with Arthur Young to become Ernst & Young.
In 1999 Geoffrey relocated his practice to Cape Town.
During the years from 1979 Geoffrey has been exposed to large, medium and small sized businesses/enterprises in all forms of ownership and many different types of trade from goods and products in manufacturing, wholesale and retail to the varies of the services sector.
He has a wealth of experience in financial management, accounting, auditing, taxation and related areas, which has been accumulated from articled clerk to independent practitioner.
Geoffrey specializes in practical financial reporting and taxation planning and strategizing to minimize tax risk.
